News in Science - Men still fertile after stopping 'pill' - 28/04/2006

It's too bad this medium of writing on-line is silent because I feel like shouting from a mountain top. IT'S ABOUT FREAKIN' TIME!!! For close to a half a century, both men and women have been reaping the benefits of the female birth control pill. That's great. It makes women feel like they can have more control of their bodies, but it also places the burden solely on the female sex. It's just a tiny pill, but taking it every single day is a pain in the butt. Sure there are patches and injections you can get so you don't have to bother with remembering to take them every day, but regardless soon men might finally get to share that responsibility. The only thing is that I don't think I would fully trust them. After all it's the woman's body that goes through the nine months of pregnancy. We have that immediate concern at the tip of our minds as an incentive to take the pill. Men on the other hand... Well... You know, on second thought - this sounds like a good back up plan to a back up plan. If you want the job done right, sometimes you've just got to do it yourself. To be fair, I guess that's a philosophy that can go to either sex.
