Belief in the Invisible

How Children Learn About God and Science - Yahoo! News

It's harder for kids to believe in God than it is in germs. This doesn't come as a surprise to me at all. Even though germs and electrons are invisible, I can see their manifestations in the world around me. You get a nasty germ? You get sick. Plain and simple. Even kids can see that. The same can't be said for religious matters. There is no proof of the manifestation of God anywhere. Religious people say that's where faith comes in. Me? I want proof. Sometimes I feel as though I'm close to feeling some sort of spiritual, more powerful force. Not always. I question. I look. Even from a scientific perspective, the world around us can become so mysterious that you'd think there's something behind it. The problem is, how could anyone possibly prove it? You can't. That's why it's a helluva lot easier for anyone to believe in viruses, germs, and other scientifically provable invisible things than any religious possibility.

Wow! Most of the time I track right with your comments - but to say that there is no proof of the manifistation of god anywhere? Hmmmm... I would figure that there is proof of the manifistation of God everywhere. It is just hard to cull out the God part from the everywhere part.

I can't say I'm religious - but like you, I am always searching. However, if God is out "there" then I'm sure I'm looking at, feeling and knowing God whenever I see, breath, hear, touch, taste....

Aren't we all God in one way or another? At least children are...

Doesn't a lot of it depend on what you include when you say 'god'? That's a pretty loaded word for most people, and has quite different connotations, from 'nature' to 'default belief system' to 'answer to questions I don't have the answers for yet' to 'the one answer that needs no question'.

Like Bill's comment suggests, 'Aren't we all god in one way or another?' Depends on what you consider god to be.
